Rev. Dave Hinay
Rev. Dave Hinay, is Manager and Port Chaplain at the Mission to Seafarers Thailand.
Born in the Philippines, Rev Dave is currently residing in Bangkok, Thailand.
Rev. Hinay has a strong relationship with St George’s congregation, being present during ordination services and other special events as a guest and providing Locum cover as a celebrant in the absence of our team.
Most notably, Rev. Dave stepped in during the summer of 2023 when Fr. David Price was undertaking his UK organ recital tour.
His role at the Mission to Seafarers in Bangkok, which began in September 2016, encompasses the establishment of port presence, ensuring the effectiveness of chaplaincy services, and providing physical, moral, and spiritual support to seafarers and their families. His work is driven by a determination to propagate the Mission’s core purpose and collaborate with ecumenical teams.
Prior to his work in Thailand, Rev. Hinay served as a Parish Priest in the Iglesia Filipina Independiente in Manila, Philippines, where his ordained ministry included remarkable accomplishments like initiating and completing major church rebuilding projects.
Educated at St. Andrew’s Theological Seminary, University of Bohol, Ramon Magsaysay State University, National Teachers’ College, and St. Camillus College Seminary, Rev. Hinay’s academic pursuits in Divinity, Education, Theology, and Philosophy have equipped him with the insights and skills to be an effective communicator and ecumenist.
A man of diverse interests, Rev. Hinay is athletic, enjoying activities like basketball, walking, running, swimming, and survival camping. His linguistic talents extend to fluency in Filipino, English, and Thai, with elementary proficiency in Spanish.
The Mission to Seafarers Thailand, where Rev. Hinay currently serves, has a long-standing tradition of offering emergency assistance and support to the world’s 1.6 million merchant seafarers. It operates in over 200 ports in 50 countries, a testament to its global outreach and benevolence.
Rev. Hinay’s dedicated service, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the mission have undoubtedly left a profound impact on the lives of many.
